I have a working 3D-printed prototype for a compact cosmetics travel palette and I’m looking for a fresh, professional industrial design perspective.
I don’t need a ground-up redesign. I’m looking for a concise, expert review that helps improve the product’s overall look, usability, ergonomics and perceived quality before I move into a small pilot batch.
The product needs to remain suitable for desktop 3D printing and simple home assembly. Picture a traveller opening this case on a cramped hotel vanity or airplane tray: the design should feel intuitive, secure, compact and visually appealing without adding unnecessary manufacturing complexity.
The selected designer will review the current CAD file, photos of the first print, and notes on the known issues. The body, hinge and pan inserts need to remain friendly to FDM/SLA printing and tool-free or low-tool assembly.
I need a concise review report (pdf) which includes the following:
- short analysis of the design- what's working well and what isn't
- practical suggestions to improve visual appeal, proportions, ergonomics and user experience;
- comments on the product’s shape, part spacing, finish, colours, grip, opening/closing feel, mirror position and storage for accessories like a spatula.
- a prioritised list of changes: must-change, nice-to-have and later-stage improvements;
- visual markups, sketches or screenshots showing recommended changes and at least one simple visual concept/mockup so I can clearly see the recommended direction rather than only interpreting written feedback.
Every recommendation should be practical to implement in common CAD software and realistic for consumer-grade 3D printing, without creating support issues, complex post-processing or unnecessary assembly problems.
Experience with cosmetics packaging, compact consumer products, travel accessories, 3D-printed prototypes or small plastic products would be highly valued.
This is intended to be a lightweight, practical design consultation rather than a long engagement or full redesign. A brief follow-up review of the revised prototype can be included as a separate milestone if needed.
