Vintage Carnival Pinball Artwork

Summary

Freelancer Client is hiring: Vintage Carnival Pinball Artwork.

Location: Remote

I’m almost finished engineering my dark-carnival home-brew pinball, it has a 3 dimensional house backbox with talking heads in the towers, they guide you through gameplay. There is a score dot matrix screen in the backbox and a little LCD above the flippers to play short videos. but the playfield is still a blank canvas. I already generated a folder of AI illustrations and have high-resolution photos of the playfield both populated and empty. Your job is to turn those assets into polished, print-ready art that fits the hardware perfectly.

What you'll do:

• 7) The fun house (this facade will be changed to a 3d printed clown head with open mouth in the future, also a task for you perhaps ) is the shot to an upkicker that will lead to the upper playfield where you can shoot the green rollercoaster ramp.

• Design matching artwork for the side rails.

• Deliver a layered PSD or AI (300 dpi, CMYK) plus a flattened TIFF/PDF that the printer can run without tweaks.

Skills: Graphic Design, CAD/CAM, Illustration, 3D Modelling

Budget: $30–$250 USD

I’m almost finished engineering my dark-carnival home-brew pinball, it has a 3 dimensional house backbox with talking heads in the towers, they guide you through gameplay. There is a score dot matrix screen in the backbox and a little LCD above the flippers to play short videos. but the playfield is still a blank canvas. I already generated a folder of AI illustrations and have high-resolution photos of the playfield both populated and empty. Your job is to turn those assets into polished, print-ready art that fits the hardware perfectly.

The canvas
• Main playfield: 1.22 m × 0.60 m, drilled and CNC-routed; every insert, screw hole and post position will be supplied on a template.
• Two narrow side rails: exact measurements provided after kickoff.

Art direction
Vintage dark carnival is the core vibe—aged midway posters, gold scrollwork, and a hint of mystery—yet driven by dark blues and purples so the machine glows under LEDs. I’d like the central circus tent, my own character renders, and clearly readable lane stripes to anchor the composition. Subtle drop-shadows and line work should help each shot path stand out for players.
Shots from left to right are:
-1) 2 yellow targets, when hit the future fortune teller tent behind it will activate.
-2) green lightning bolt insert is the entrance of the future fortune teller tent.
-3) left outer loop is the shot to the bumpercars (2 pop bumpers)
-4) red ramp with a scoop flap in it which sometimes opens and ball rolls to the red/white ticketboot upkicker through a subway under the playfield,an animation of a creepy clown hunting you down a tunnel plays on the playfield LCD.
-5) The center toy of the playfield as seen in the pictures is a "saloon" style fully working "shooting gallery" with a slam ramp in front of it that only rises when that mode is active, when non active it has 3 targets to aim at.
-6) Loop that goes around the fun house and exits at the right of the funhouse, girl in black or girl in red/white will be added to that shot as a burlesque stage entertainer or carnival queen or something like that.
-7) The fun house (this facade will be changed to a 3d printed clown head with open mouth in the future, also a task for you perhaps ) is the shot to an upkicker that will lead to the upper playfield where you can shoot the green rollercoaster ramp.
-8) Popcorn freak shot,a Loop that has a popcorn machine( which mechanically pops popcorn ) goes around the funhouse and exits at the left side of the funhouse, multiple shots show different videos of the clown wanting to obtain your popcorn.

What you’ll actually do
• Import and resize my AI images, arranging them on the 1.22 × 0.60 m layout with perfect alignment to the cut-outs.
• Paint in additional highlights, textures, shadows, and weathering so everything feels cohesive.
• Design matching artwork for the side rails.
• Deliver a layered PSD or AI (300 dpi, CMYK) plus a flattened TIFF/PDF that the printer can run without tweaks.

I’ll supply reference boards, color notes, and quick feedback throughout. If you live in Photoshop or Illustrator and love vintage carnival aesthetics, let’s give this machine the artwork it deserves.
