Compact MP3 Playback PCB
Summary
Freelancer Client is hiring: Compact MP3 Playback PCB.
Location: Remote
I need a complete schematic and board layout for a sub-100 × 100 mm PCB that can store and play MP3 files. The board must work flawlessly from either a 5 V USB supply or a battery pack connected through terminal blocks, with equal priority given to both sources.
Requirements:
• On/Off toggle brought out to a two-pin terminal block
• 5 V pass-through at a USB-A connector so I can power an external module
• All connectors clearly labelled on silkscreen and oriented for easy enclosure mounting
• Please base the design on readily available components (e.g. DFPlayer Mini, VS1053, ESP32-S or any other proven MP3 playback IC) and keep the BOM low-cost and single-sided assembly friendly. If you choose surface-mount parts, stay with packages that a small assembly house can place without special tooling.
• 1. Schematic in KiCad, Altium, Eagle, or another mainstream EDA tool (source files, not just PDF)
• 2. PCB layout with Gerber, drill, and pick-and-place files
• 3. Complete BOM with manufacturer part numbers and at least two supply options per item
• 4. Brief user sheet explaining power selection, trigger wiring, and audio output use
Skills: Electronics, Electrical Engineering, PCB Layout, Arduino, Embedded Systems, Signal Processing, Simulation, Audio Engineering
Budget: $30–$250 USD

Original
I need a complete schematic and board layout for a sub-100 × 100 mm PCB that can store and play MP3 files. The board must work flawlessly from either a 5 V USB supply or a battery pack connected through terminal blocks, with equal priority given to both sources.
Core behaviour: when an infrared remote or an onboard PIR motion sensor is activated, the chosen track plays and a trigger LED on a JST header goes high for the exact play-back period. While audio is playing I want the signal available on both a 3.5 mm jack and a screw-terminal pair so I can switch between headphones and a small amp without hardware changes.
Additional hardware requirements
• On/Off toggle brought out to a two-pin terminal block
• 5 V pass-through at a USB-A connector so I can power an external module
• All connectors clearly labelled on silkscreen and oriented for easy enclosure mounting
Please base the design on readily available components (e.g. DFPlayer Mini, VS1053, ESP32-S or any other proven MP3 playback IC) and keep the BOM low-cost and single-sided assembly friendly. If you choose surface-mount parts, stay with packages that a small assembly house can place without special tooling.
Deliverables
1. Schematic in KiCad, Altium, Eagle, or another mainstream EDA tool (source files, not just PDF)
2. PCB layout with Gerber, drill, and pick-and-place files
3. Complete BOM with manufacturer part numbers and at least two supply options per item
4. Brief user sheet explaining power selection, trigger wiring, and audio output use
Acceptance criteria: the design must fit within 100 mm × 100 mm, boot and play an MP3 from either power input, and drive the LED trigger line exactly while audio is active. A quick simulation or bench test screenshot proving current draw under both power modes will be appreciated.
