Original

I am seeking a motivated Embedded Systems Research Assistant to support the development, simulation, and experimental validation of a low-cost electronic assistive subsystem for blind and visually impaired users. The project focuses on electronics-level performance, including power consumption, response latency, communication reliability, and system efficiency.

The work will involve MATLAB/Simulink modelling, ESP32-based hardware setup, sensor interfacing, audio/haptic feedback systems, and bench-level experimental validation.

The successful candidate will:
- Develop and test MATLAB/Simulink models for an embedded assistive system.
- Support the design of an ESP32-based prototype using sensors, communication modules, and feedback devices.
- Model system operating modes such as idle, sensing, processing, communication, and feedback.
- Measure power consumption, latency, response time, and communication reliability.
- Assist with experimental validation using bench-level hardware.
- Compare simulation results with real hardware measurements.
- Prepare plots, tables, technical notes, and documentation for project reporting.
-Support troubleshooting of embedded circuits, sensor communication, and data logging.

Required Skills and Experience
- Embedded systems and microcontroller-based design.
- ESP32, Arduino, or similar development boards.
- MATLAB and Simulink modelling.
- I2C, I2S, UART, BLE, or Wi-Fi communication.
- Basic electronic circuit design and testing.
- Sensor interfacing, especially IMU or distance sensors.
- Data collection, analysis, and performance evaluation.
- Power measurement and latency testing.

The Research Assistant will contribute to:

- A MATLAB/Simulink model of the assistive subsystem.
- Power consumption and latency measurement results.
- Simulation versus experimental comparison.
- Design recommendations for low-cost assistive electronics.
- Supporting documentation for the final research report.

This role is suitable for an engineering student, graduate, or early-career researcher with strong interest in embedded systems, electronics, assistive technology, and simulation-based design. The ideal candidate should be practical, detail-oriented, and comfortable working with both software models and physical hardware.
