Part-Time Linux DevOps Support

Summary

Freelancer Client is hiring: Part-Time Linux DevOps Support.

Location: Remote

My production sites and internal tools live on a Linux server supplied by a traditional hosting provider (no AWS, Azure, or GCP layers in between). What I need, on an ongoing but on-demand basis, is hands-on server monitoring and maintenance that keeps this machine secure, up-to-date, and performing at its peak.

What you'll do:

• System updates and patch management – applying distro updates, kernel patches, and package upgrades quickly but safely, with rollback plans in place.

• Performance monitoring and optimisation – tracking CPU, RAM, disk I/O and network throughput, tuning services (Apache/Nginx, PHP-FPM, MySQL) and adjusting configs before bottlenecks hurt users.

• Security monitoring and hardening – proactive log review, intrusion detection, firewall tuning, vulnerability scans, and recommendations that tighten the box without breaking deployments.

• I’m comfortable if you bring along your preferred stack—Ansible, bash scripts, cron jobs, Prometheus, Grafana, Zabbix, Nagios, or any lightweight alternative—so long as it fits a single-server Linux environment and leaves me with clear documentation.

• Deliverables for each engagement:

• 1. A brief pre-task checklist confirming backup status.

• 2. Executed maintenance work with commands or playbooks committed to git (private repo).

• 3. A concise post-task report outlining actions taken, current performance metrics, and any next steps.

Skills: System Admin, Linux, Apache, Internet Security, Bash Scripting, DevOps, Ansible, System Administration

Budget: $1500–$12500 USD

What I need, on an ongoing but on-demand basis, is hands-on server monitoring and maintenance that keeps this machine secure, up-to-date, and performing at its peak.

The focus areas are clear:
• System updates and patch management – applying distro updates, kernel patches, and package upgrades quickly but safely, with rollback plans in place.
• Performance monitoring and optimisation – tracking CPU, RAM, disk I/O and network throughput, tuning services (Apache/Nginx, PHP-FPM, MySQL) and adjusting configs before bottlenecks hurt users.

1. A brief pre-task checklist confirming backup status.
2. Executed maintenance work with commands or playbooks committed to git (private repo).
3. A concise post-task report outlining actions taken, current performance metrics, and any next steps.

The rhythm will be ad-hoc: sometimes a quick patch, other times a deeper performance or security audit. Turnaround within 24–48 h for critical updates is ideal. If that cadence and scope fit your skill set, I’ll reserve hours each month and spin up tasks as they arise.
